Projected winner: JACK DEAN
ELECTION UPDATE (as of 17:00 UTC 28/12/20) : Adam Belcher continues to receive high profile votes and now has the support of New Virginia and Uskor. Jack Dean is on 27 votes – breaking Newton Von Uberquie’s record and winning the most votes in GUM electoral history. Turnout now stands at 85% with at least 3 more confirmed votes yet to come. Jack Dean has publically claimed victory and Adam Belcher has signalled his intent to release a statement shortly.
ELECTION UPDATE (as of 22:00 UTC 26/12/20) : The Essexian Post has projected Jack Dean as the next Chairman of the Grand Unified Micronational after he reached the 24 vote threshold, giving him a majority of the vote.
ELECTION UPDATE (as of 17:00 UTC 26/12/20) : Jack Dean’s lead has widened again as he now sits on 22 votes – 47% of the total. Being just 2 more votes away from a majority and with several endorsers yet to vote, his path to victory seems unassailable. The Belcher ticket appears to have lost it’s early steam and currently is on 9 votes. It’s been confirmed privately to the Essexian Post that Zenrax and Ledilia will not be voting this election, taking abstentions to 2.
ELECTION UPDATE (as of 22:30 UTC 25/12/20) : Jack Dean continues to have a significant lead – being just 5 votes away from victory – with several of his key endorsers yet to cast their votes. Adam Belcher is performing much better than the Dean campaign predicated, and has won the crucial support of Austenasia and Wyvern which will come as a blow to his opposition. It is still too early to project a winner – the Essexian Post has Jack Dean projected at 23 votes with current turnout rates- just one away from victory.
ELECTION UPDATE (as of 09:00 UTC 25/12/20 ) : An early lead for Jack puts him just 8 votes away from the Chairmanship and it’s been an excellent showing for the Dean campaign, but surprise votes from Hak’hanna and Naveria for Adam Belcher demonstrates the tightness of the race and that the contest is still to play for
The race for Chairman of the Grand Unified Micronational is now underway! It has been a campaign that has lasted several months and endured over 4 nominations – including from Joey Kennedy, Cameron of Ikonia, Jack Dean, and Adam Belcher. Only the latter two remain and are fighting it out to achieve the support of an absolute majority of the Quorum.
Despite the historic early endorsements for Jack Dean and high criticism of the Belcher campaign for it’s reluctance to commit to reform, everything is still to play for.
To win, a candidate needs 24 votes on 100% turnout. However, they only need a majority of all the votes cast, so if it’s a tight race, then the actual number will be less than that, assuming turnout is about 80% – which is usual for this type of election.
You can see the results as they come in live above, and below, you’ll find which nations have pledged support for the respective candidates. This page will be updated every hour during all 7 days of the election by the Essexian Posts moderation team.
